Kathia Berger - Vita

The internationally known German artist Kathia Berger started painting as a child. After studying drama at the College of Art she was engaged as an actress for 5 years by the Deutsche Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. Further employment was to be found in film, radio and television.

Many reports about Kathia Berger appeared in the press and on television. She worked as a graphic artist for the publishing house Heinrich Bauer before earning her living as a freelance artist and authoress.
Kathia Berger was awarded the Silver Medal by the Grafik-Club Stuttgart for her calendar "Kathia’s naive World".

Her pictures have been shown in nearly all European countries, as well as in Chicago/USA and Vancouver/Canada. Various paintings of hers are to be found in private and public collections, including the Landesmuseum Linz/Austria and the Sprengel-Museum in Hanover.

One of the many commissions was the designing of a plate to be produced by Hutschenreuther for the World Famine Relief – "Danken und Helfen". For several years the German Government presented this plate to foreign guests of honour. Kathia Berger also designed a decorative porcelain series for Arzberg, "Kathia’s Cats". These pieces are much sought-after collector items.

Kathia Berger was the first artist to place animals as the main subject in the focal point of her pictures. Her artistic life's work is linked with a dedication to the protection of animals and nature. Her style of painting is representational-surreal. Strict composition and a discriminating sense of colour are peculiar to her pictures, in which the observer can let his soul be immersed in another world. The precision of the forms and the radiant colours remind one of Giorgio de Chirico. The paintings are executed in the Old Master technique of oil on canvas.

Kathia’s first book "Zirkus, Zirkus" with her own text and illustrations was published by Rowohlt. A fairy tale followed with the book "Tiere sind meine Freunde" - "Animals are my Friends", a charity book for the World Wildlife Fund in which well-known persons told their favourite tales. The cover picture was also from Kathia Berger. "Katzenfürst Bodo, ein Märchen für Erwachsene" - "Prinz Bodo, a fairy tale for adults" was the next book. Just recently she has completed her first novel "Eines Tages im nächsten Leben"- "Once upon a time in another life". A book dealing with the highly topical subject of reincarnation.

For decades Kathia Berger has been collecting anything and everything to do with the portrayal of cats. A unique opportunity now exists to buy the collection, as a whole or partly. For more details please contact the artist.
